Meet Jeremy Elmers
Age: 22
Residence: Hoofddorp
Free time: Padel, football, sports, festivals, friends and family
Since when at McFly & Brown: November 2024
My ultimate happy moments: Winning at: work, padel, football or a board game
My largest irritations are: “I can’t do that.” → “There’s no such thing as ‘I can’t,’ and ‘never ever’ is even less of an option ;)”
Always up for: Good company: festivals, holidays or a terrace
Favorite quote: You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
Best advice I’ve ever gotten: Life is short, work hard but don’t forget to enjoy.
Before, I wanted to be: Psychologist, not something many kids said but I always wanted to talk to people a lot and help them where I can.
Known for: Always being the youngest and never the quietest. I bring energy and positivity.
Working in recruitment: listening, feeling and connecting
Recruitment sometimes feels like professional puzzling. On the one hand: a candidate with ambitions, doubts and their own story. On the other: a client with specific question, team and culture. How do you make sure everything falls into place? If that puzzle succeeds, that’s the best thing there is.
“In recruitment you work with people and with emotions, wishes, doubts and timing. This makes it hundred times more fun.”
You must be sharp, move quickly, ask questionsand feel. And then when everything checks out, and someone says: ‘I would never have found this job myself,’ you know exactly what you are doing it for.
A flying start with the right guidance
Before I started working at McFly & Brown, I sold laptops. I learned a lot in sales, but recruitment is a different expertise. Here, you don’t work with a product, but with people and that requires different skills.
What helped me? The intensive coaching from day one. The first weeks were all about training. I gained insight into every phase of the recruiting process, on both the client and candidate side. From the first phone call to closing a deal, everything was covered.
That solid foundation gave me not only knowledge but also confidence. This allowed me to quickly take steps and develop on my own.
My personally growth
In this job, you are always working on several processes at the same time. That requires an overview and, to be honest, I didn’t always have that in the beginning. Because so much happens at once, you must create structure.
“What surprised me: it didn’t stop at work. I also noticed the difference privately. I have become less cluttered, have more grip on my days and things run more smoothly. That gives me focus and peace of mind, at work and outside.”
You also learn to deal with unexpected situations. Sometimes you think: this is going to be it, and then someone pulls out anyway. That is part of the game. You learn to switch gears, persevere, deal with disappointments and, above all, come out stronger. You take that resilience with you wherever you go.
What also helps: you know exactly what you are working towards. The growth path is clearly defined, based on performance as well as soft skills. That motivates and gives direction.
What it's like to work at McFly & Brown
We are ambitious, competitive and want to win, but never at the expense of each other. If someone does well, it motivates the rest to accelerate as well. We keep each other on our toes, help each other move forward and celebrate successes together.
“Everyone here strives to be the best, but also wishes the same for others”
Simultaneously, we are also just a close, friendly club. We laugh a lot, have good conversations and regularly do something fun together: a drink on Friday, a team outing, or an incentive achieved. We end every month with a review and a drink.
Sometimes something spontaneous happens. Having lunch with the team out of the blue, just because there was some team budget left over. Such things are fun and strengthen the team spirit.
What surprised me most?
The versatility of recruitment has surprised me. It is commercial, but also social. At times it requires a sharp business mindset, and at other times, a very personal approach. You work with people at a vulnerable time: a new job has a lot of impact. It is special to play a role in that.
“McFly & Brown is the place where I can be myself and challenge myself. This is where I get better every week.”
If you get energy from working with people, enjoy making a difference and are eager to grow within an ambitious yet supportive team, then you’ll fit in perfectly here. I started without any recruitment experience, but I’ve learned so much in a short time. For me, McFly & Brown is the place where job satisfaction and personal growth go hand in hand.
