This strategic role puts you in charge of engineering operations, innovation and international collaboration within complex mechatronic product development in the automotive industry.
You move easily between boardroom-level discussions, team dynamics and technical depth. Whether it's client interaction, collaboration with global teams or leading organisational transformation, you bring structure, leadership and progress.

As Director Engineering, you will lead an international team of over 80 engineers. You steer on technology, structure and culture. This strategic role puts you in charge of engineering operations, innovation and international collaboration within complex mechatronic product development in the automotive industry.
You move easily between boardroom-level discussions, team dynamics and technical depth. Whether it's client interaction, collaboration with global teams or leading organisational transformation, you bring structure, leadership and progress.
You combine strategic vision with solid execution. You are fully responsible for global engineering performance, growth and innovation.
Your role includes:
- Leading a global team of more than 80 engineers across mechanical, electronic and software domains
- Setting and managing the worldwide engineering strategy and associated budgets
- Overseeing the development and validation of advanced mechatronic systems
- Structuring and managing engineering projects, timelines, capacity and quality standards
- Guiding team development, career paths and performance reviews
- Collaborating closely with business development, product management, production and quality departments
- Leading structural and cultural transformation within the engineering function
- Managing the integration and collaboration with Chinese engineering teams
- Acting as strategic point of contact for key clients
- Providing insights to the executive board regarding progress, challenges and strategic direction

We are looking for an experienced leader with a strong technical background and a proven track record in international collaboration and team development.
You bring:
- At least 5 years of experience in a senior or director-level engineering leadership position
- A master’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams of approximately 80 FTE
- Solid technical understanding of mechanical, electronic and software-driven product development
- Proven experience working internationally, ideally including collaboration with teams in China
- Experience driving transformation within engineering teams (structure and culture)
- Strategic client communication and relationship-building skills
- Fluency in English
- Willingness to relocate to the Utrecht region
